“Của để dành” (Treasures Kept) was a small display on the second floor of the Chie Tây Bắc store (now Chie Dù Pù Dù Pà), 66 Hàng Trống, Hanoi, from 6 to 31 March 2019, open 9:00–21:00 daily. The opening was at 19:00 on Wednesday 6 March 2019.
It brought together paintings by artist Hà Hùng Dũng and an installation by Thủy Tây Bắc of old jewellery, brocade and household items from highland ethnic minority women, collected after years of living in the mountains and staying in villages. The display was made by women, for people who love women and the highlands.
What does “Của để dành” mean?
“Của để dành” is a familiar Vietnamese phrase for precious things kept for a long time. That is how Thủy wanted to share her collection: treasures from the Northwest highlands placed beside Hà Hùng Dũng’s paintings of mountain women.

Visitors could see brocade in the paintings, a loom, images of women weaving, and everyday objects from highland life in the Northwest. The display also included works the artist painted on the spot during his spring trip through Hanoi and the Northwest.

The space is small, so Chie asked visitors to message ahead so the hosts could welcome them properly and chat with the artists.
